D-Day 80 Military Dinner

D-Day 80 celebrations were widespread across the entire country, these included a very special Military Dinner held at the Victory Services Club, London, with Blind Veterans CEO, Adrian Bell, Chairman Barry Coupe, and guest of honour Normandy Veteran George Chandler, all in attendance.

Over 100 people enjoyed an unforgettable experience as George retold his first-hand account of D-Day, the turning point of WWII. George was also joined by fellow WWII Veterans John Ryan, George Barnes, and Alice Wolynsky, who each received a limited-edition Blind Veterans sterling silver coin in recognition of their service, and contribution to the charity.

"What fitting tribute to those who fought at D-Day and in the subsequent Normandy campaign. It was particularly thought-provoking to listen to the personal lived experiences of George”. --- Blind veteran

The D-Day Darlings, famed for their appearance on ITV’s Britain's Got Talent, helped mark the occasion through song, and an exhibit of Blind Veterans WWII artefacts including a Typewriter and Pocket Watch, helped set the scene and atmosphere.

“These special events are hugely important; we must remember our past in all conflicts, and the sacrifices that others have made for us to enjoy our freedoms today. They provide the perfect opportunity to bring people together and allow us to showcase Blind Veterans at our very best”.
