Celebrating befriending excellence this Volunteers' Week

Published on 3 Jun 2025

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re proud to share that our befriending service has once again been awarded the Quality in Befriending Excellence mark by Befriending Networks -  the highest level of recognition for befriending services in the UK.

We’re proud to be one of just 15 organisations across the UK and Ireland to hold the Gold Award. This is a testament to the exceptional quality and impact of our service, and the compassion and commitment of our incredible volunteers.

Celebrating our volunteers

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Whether it's a regular chat, a visit at home, or help getting out and about, our volunteers offer companionship and care that changes lives.

Not only do I feel like I am contributing something of value, I also feel that I have made a friend.

I enjoy meeting the group of people that I take to the pub every month. They are very appreciative. I don't see it as a volunteer role, more of a friend helping them out.

Thank you, from our veterans

Watch this short video to hear the heartfelt thanks from some of the veterans impacted by the incredible support of our volunteers.

Blind veteran Colin sits on a chair outside in his garden, shrubbery and flowers are seen in the background. He is mid speech.

Making a difference

To all our volunteers -  thank you. Your time and dedication mean the world to us and those you support.

Every chat, every visit and every hour given makes a huge difference to the lives of our blind veterans.

If you've been inspired to make a difference yourself, we have roles available across the UK - from home visitors, drivers and social club helpers.
