Rustington centre clear 2.3 tonnes with Suez
On 8 October we hosted a 'Sort it with Suez' day at our Rustington centre, where the Suez Surrey Team kindly supported us with waste removal and reuse efforts.
Our Rustington Centre has limited space and was overwhelmed with unrequired items from our old Brighton site, along with failed electrical equipment needing proper disposal. Thanks to the generous support of the SUEZ team, we were able to sort, recycle, and repurpose many of these items through their expert help and corporate volunteering days, reducing both environmental impact and costs for the charity.
The team helped recover and sort a total of 2,300 kilograms of items, including:
- 580kg of medical equipment, which will be reintroduced into NHS circulation or provided as humanitarian aid to Ukraine
- 900kg of household items, heading to SUEZ’s five Revive reuse shops operated on behalf of Surrey County Council
- 820kg of electrical products, sent for PAT testing
- The most commonly found item during the clean-up? Sombreros!
A standout moment of the day was the remarkable transformation of what had once been a cluttered storage area. It's now affectionately known among staff as the Suez Suite - a nod to the team's hard work!
It was a privilege to support Blind Veterans UK, a charity that means so much to many of us. Using our ‘Day a Year to Volunteer’ scheme in this way was an excellent opportunity to make a real impact with the power of reuse and recycling, while strengthening our connection with the wider veteran community.
There are plenty of ways to show your support. If our mission resonates with you, get in touch to find out more about our partnership opportunities and get involved.
