Setting up an online fundraising page with platforms like JustGiving make it easier for your family and friends to donate - no matter where they are in the world.

Details vary from site to site, but generally you will have to:

  • Create an account by giving some basic details such as your name and email address, or log in if you already have an account.
  • Describe your event and create your page:
    • Explain what you are doing, when you are doing it, and why you are doing it.
    • Make your story personal and include photos to engage people and attract more donations. For example, tell readers if you are fundraising in memory of someone, or in honour of a family member or friend who is supported by Blind Veterans UK.
    • Explain the vital work that Blind Veterans UK do and why it matters to you.
    • Set a target to create momentum - friends and family will love to know their donation is helping you reach (or exceed!) your goal.
  • Choose Blind Veterans UK as the charity you are raising money for.
  • Use QR codes to allow people to donate quickly and easily. JustGiving have advice on how to create a QR code .

Reasons to set up a fundraising page

Celebrations Whether you’re marking a milestone birthday or anniversary, getting married or retiring, ask your family and friends to make a donation to us instead of giving gifts.
In memory Fundraising in memory of a loved one is a great way to support vision-impaired veterans and pay tribute to someone you've lost.
Sponsorship Take on a challenge to test your limits, or just organise a fun event, and ask your friends and family to sponsor you to help blind veterans across the UK.

Making the most of your online fundraising page.

  • Generate a QR code:  This will enable you to include an easy scannable link to your page, making giving on the go easy. JustGiving have advice on how to create a QR code .
  • Share links to your page on social media: Don't forget to include your link in posts about your fundraising progress or whenever you share content from our accounts.
  • Add a link in your email signature:  Don't forget to get permission from your line manager.
  • Update your page with your fundraising journey:  Share news of how your planning is going, prizes and venue secured, training, injuries (sympathy is a great source of sponsorship!) and personal bests etc.
Did you know? You can also create fundraisers on Facebook, where there is no cost to you or the charity, so 100% of the donations received go to a worthy cause.
